Wexler, Whitfield, and Granger Condemn Deadly Attack July 9, 2008, Washington, DC - Today, Congressman Robert Wexler (D-FL), Congressman Ed Whitfield (R-KY), and Congresswoman Kay Granger (R-TX), Co-Chairs of the Congressional Turkey Caucus in the United States House of Representatives, released the following statement condemning today's deadly attack outside of the main gate of the US Consulate in Istanbul , Turkey . Three Turkish policeman providing security outside of the American Consulate in Istanbul were killed in the attack. "We strongly condemn this heinous attack on both the American Consulate in Istanbul and on Turkish policemen protecting American diplomats. We would also like to express our deepest condolences to the families of the three Turkish officers tragically killed in this attack and express our admiration and gratitude for the bravery displayed by these individuals in defending the US Consulate. It is critical that the United States stand with our ally Turkey as we work together to bring those individuals responsible for these unconscionable criminal acts to justice." |
